Ariadne Writer's Studio

[Ariadne Unavailable]

Ariadne Writer's Studio is awaiting a substantial rewrite and is currently not available for download.

Ariadne is software that helps writers organise stories.

A story can contain thousands of elements like events, locations, and characters. Ariadne provides a way to easily manage all your plotlines, descriptions, character profiles, research notes, and everything else that surrounds the text of your story.

To give you an idea of what Ariadne is capable of, please look at the history sample

An overview of Ariadne's Main Aspects

Narrative and Chronological order

Ariadne focusses on the chronological, rather than the narrative, sequence of your story. You create a diagram of all the consequential events in your story, mapping out cause-and-effect. So an ariadne diagram might have this sequence;

even though the narrative goes like this;

The first is a cause-and-effect sequence, the second is a narrative sequence.

Distinguishing the two reveals that the writer has two distinct jobs; to design the history, and to tell the story. Most Writing software, from a basic word processor to pro software like Final Draft, is designed to help you with the narrative, not the history.

The benefit of laying out the history first is that you can ensure that the whole story makes sense before trying to figure out how to try to tell it. Graphically, it is very easy to see unresolved plots, to see conflicts like the same character appearing in two places at the same time, or characters disappearing from the storyline altogether.

Linking

You can identify characters, places, and anything else that appears in your story, and link it with an event. You can even identify plotlines, and make events part of a plotline;

You can now get a diagram for each character, location, plotline, etc. This means you can ask;

Outlining

You can write about everything in your story, and Ariadne allows you to create outlines, like this;

You can attach some text to every event, and then get the whole document in a manuscript format.
